SkiLink Proposal and
 Alton Coal Lease

H.R. 3452 Wasatach Range Recreation Access Enhancement Act or "SkiLink Proposal"

 The issue: H.R. 3452 will allow for the sale of 30 acres of federal land to allow the development and operation of a privately held gondola called “SkiLink” to  service the Canyons ski resort to Big Cottonwood Canyon ski resorts. 

Concerns: habitat, public process, water, land use

On December 12, 2011, GSLA submitted comments to Senator Hatch, Senator Lee, Representative Bishop, Representative Chaffetz, Representative Matheson, Salt Lake County Mayor  Coroon, and Sal Lake Mayor Becker to express opposition to H.R. 3452.

Alton Coal Lease by Application (LBA) Draft Environmental Impact Statement

The issue: A draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been prepared by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management that analyzes and discloses the potential environmental effects of leasing and mining coal in the Alton Coal Lease Tract, near Alton, Utah. The Proposed Action includes 2,280 acres of federally managed land that would be mined over 25 years.

Concerns: habitat loss, greater sage-grouse, Utah sensitive species, pollution, climate change

GSLA will be submitting comments on the Draft EIS. Comments are due January 6, 2012.
