Attached is the agenda for the Audubon Council of Utah spring 2008 retreat, hosted by Red Cliffs Audubon and held near Zion National Park. I greatly appreciate all of Marilyn's ideas and efforts in pulling this agenda together....it really looks like a lot of fun! Last fall we were at another National Park Service location, so maybe we'll make this a tradition (^_^). The scenery and birds should be fantastic. In addition to the "usual" birds, Bill mentioned the possibility of Mexican spotted owls (there are a number of breeding pairs in the Park) and maybe California condors (if the Kolob Road is open). A few additional notes / thoughts:

First, please distribute this widely...e-mail lists, post on website, etc.

Second, please let me know if you plan to attend and are looking for opportunities to carpool. It may be just as easy to reply to this e-mail, then I would know as would others. Also, would you like to drive down Friday night or early (not later than 3 a.m.) Saturday night? Or drive half way?

Third, I made some additional calls on motels and campgrounds

  • Zion Park Inn....no vacancies
  • Bumbleberry Inn...there are vacancies and prices as quoted in the agenda ($88 and $98) (no group rates)
  • Zion Canyon Inn...vacancies ($109 for 2 people) (need 10 people for group rates)
  • Zion National Park Campgrounds.... www.recreation.gov Only Watchman campground through this site. There are no group sites available, but lots of RV ($18/night) and tent ($16/night) sites available. Maximum of 6 people per site. Camping can be reserved, but sites are not assigned (so it'd be good to get there early). I believe Keith and Marilyn have reserved a RV spot in this campground.
  • Zion Lodge...I called after business hours and could follow up, though online looks like $153/night

Finally, breakfast Saturday morning will be provided by Red Cliffs Audubon. Sunday box lunches can be decided during the Saturday meeting. We can either pick them up from Zion Park Grill on Saturday for $6.50 or we can have them made fresh Sunday morning and pick them up from Switchback Restaurant before we leave Springdale for $11.95.

Choices: Ham, Smoked Turkey, Roast Beef Sandwich with chips, cookie, fruit, drink. (The Zion Park Grill is closed on Sunday).

Again, a big thank you to Marilyn for pulling this together.
